GINIA BEACH, Va. (January 8, 2023) – Howard University women’s track & field team shined at the VCU Invitational, hosted by the Rams in Virginia Beach, Va.
Overall, the Bison returned to action in a big way, winning nine events on the day.
The 4×400 relay squad, consisting of seniors Jessica Wright (Durham, N.C.) and Dasia Wilson (Philadelphia), sophomore Tiffani-Rae Pittman (Bowie, Md.) and newcomer Zoe Turner, capped off the afternoon, winning the race with a 3:48.85 time.
Individually, Pittman led the way with a win in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 24.48, followed by Wright (24.53). She also competed in the 60-meter race, finishing runner-up (7.63) to fellow Bison sophomore Lamaria Washington(Miami), who won with a time of 7.62. Junior Darci Khan placed third overall in the same event (7.67).
Turner took first place in the 400-meter dash (57.97) while Khan claimed gold in the 60-meter hurdle (8.48). Junior Kaya-Rae Dunbar (Burtonsville, Md.) finished behind Khan, producing an 8.58 mark.
Other notable victories on the track include sophomore Joslyn Crosby (Bossier City, La.) winning the 1-mile run (5:26.43) and fellow classmate Camille Egbula(Simpsonville, S.C.) earning first in the 1000-meter run (3:00.43).
In the field, graduate thrower Mikayla Rodgers (South Huntington, N.Y.) won the weight throw, tossing 18.32 meters (60’1″).
Newcomer jumper Ija Mumford placed third in the long jump (5.57 meters) and triple jump (11.37 meters).
Howard continues its indoor season with a pair of meets next weekend: Rod McCravy Invitational (Jan. 13-14) and HBCU Battle (Jan. 14).
